Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.
Simoniac is a proud, stubborn dragon and he views himself somewhat as royalty. He often rebels against his human 'owner', who Simoniac believes is unworthy of his presence. Around other dragons, he feels uneasy and anxious, because he believes his shimmering gold hide makes him superior to the others. Simoniac is very intelligent and powerful, and he is ferocious in both verbal and physical confrontations. Because he prefers to spend most of his time alone and his views of other dragons are not that kind, Simoniac doesn't have many friends. For those he does consider his friends, he will offer up one of the many glittering jewels from his private hoard as a token of friendship. Collecting gems is one of his hobbies, because the shiny rocks soothe his mind and fill a deep satisfaction in his heart. When not collecting precious stones, Simoniac will quietly ponder various puzzles, logical perplexities, and the supernatural mysteries surrounding him, and sometimes disturb the magic veil.
