Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ever since he was born, this little dorsal had been without a name. Many dragons picked on him for being nameless, but others just appeared to look through him as if he wasn't a dragon or had any substance at all. For all these years he had been okay with this, quiet and being alone and just there without being noted. He was mated to Freya, the storyteller, but the match wasn't really in depth. Freya was nice and pleasant, but she just wasn't the one. Then one night, during a dream in his jungle clearing, the misty form of a dragoness came to him. When he asked who she was and what kind of dragon, she merely said her name was Myrrthe and that she didn't know what she was. They talked in his dreams, then finally she requested that he receive a name and suggested the one Dunmore. He thought about it for some time, then before all the others, the nameless dorsal became Dunmore. Despite having a name he prefers to keep to himself and dream of his misty dragoness love named Myrrthe.
