Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It perfectly depicts winter weather.
And look! It’s grown its wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don’t grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.
Yukito is sometimes teased by some of the girl hatchlings for being a "mama's boy", as he adores his mother (and she in return) and is often found in his presence. He also doesn't mind hanging out with the girls, which makes the other boys wish he'd grow a bit more backbone and act more like a man. It's doubtful that will happen, as Yukito seems quite content to be the spoiled baby of his family and the group of dragons in their area.
