Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Slash was a tiny hatchling he was filled with ambition. He wanted to be a professional runner and beat every other dragon in the Cave Olympics. He grew to be an adult and the opportunity to compete in the Cave Olympics was his. One misty morning he was practicing. As he was darting laps around a large pond for practice the sky grew dark. Wind blew hard against Slash's scales but he was determined to keep practicing until he could feel the gold medal in his claws. The silver or bronze wouldn't be enough. Rain poured down mercilessly, but Slash didn't stop. The rain gave way to hail and the ground grew soggy beneath Slash's claws. He made a wrong footing on a stone—the dirt around the stone had turned to mud a he slid into the pond. It was deep and Slash didn't know how to swim. Before death claimed him, Slash was saved by Siren, a water dragon. The water had done damage to his lungs and he could never sprint again, the Olympics now just a dream.
