Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Kadobi worships his father and eagerly awaits his parents' infrequent visits to the Kyokos Vale. His parents truly love their little firecracker, but neither are exactly cut out for childcare. Rinbyoutou is too driven to set aside his work, and Mukaebi still suffers from immaturity. She's the very image of a doting mother for short periods of time—attentive and tickled pink by every adorable aspect of her son—but she gets bored in the long term. Instead, Kadobi thrives on the short bursts of attention his parents are able to spare him, and spends the rest of his time at Jikun's daycare. He's a core member of Bai-Bai's gang, although his position is rather odd. Whenever they start breaking rules, Kadobi's the one to whine, complain, and vehemently remind them of the fact despite going along with everything. The other hatchlings have fun teasing him, and after they inevitably get caught, he gets to say "I told you so." All in all, it's a satisfying arrangement for everyone.
