Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its belly is bright red and it is most active in the evening.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Night Rising is a loner hatchling, abandoned by its parents: Lilysun, a clan dragon; and Sunset of Falling Light, a tribe dragon. When still an egg, Night Rising's parents had asked Emberscar, a family friend and local Ember dragon, to take it and raise Night Rising as her own. Emberscar accepted, and took the egg into her home next to a geyser. The heat from the hot waters heated the egg, eroding layer after layer off of the egg Night Rising was still in. Hatching early, the hatchling's hot state had somehow frozen it in its current stage, trapping it as a hatchling forever. Emberscar tried everything she could to help the hatchling, but it was no use. Finally, giving up, Emberscar released Night Rising alone into the wild. The Sunset hatchling has since then relied on other dragons, trying to find its way back to the home it hatched from. With no luck, Night Rising officially gave itself the title of loner hatchling.
