It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nigatsu Chigo, or 'February Child', gained her Hoshi, or 'Star' name when she became leader of Amethyst Clan, a band of all female, violet colored dragons. A peaceful, gentle leader, Nigatsu Hoshi always tries diplomacy to settle differences; she'll give a rare whack to the head with her tail if the arguing sides won't agree. Though she may have a kind heart, she also has a will of steel, so she can be utterly stubborn at times. Her Clan is closest to Storm Clan, though there are times when Nigatsu's gentle nature and Arashi's wild unpredictability clash. Nigatsu is very close to her mate, Tsuta Hoshi of Vine Clan. Although he's looking for a mate within his own clan, Nigatsu knows she'll always be his one true love.
