Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Chervecryd is a wise and ancient dragon. He lives alone, but guards nearby dragons and civilizations, though his protection hasn't been required for nearly two centuries. He sits tall and imposing at his mountainside home, watching over all those he can see. He does have a role other than protector, however.

Young dragons near a year of age may come to Chervecryd to show off their traits or skills. This is a tradition that the dragons under Chervecryd's protection started, likely to see the strange dragon more, but dragons far from off sometimes come to receive a title, usually just to say they have one. Now, it is a rite of passage for young dragons under Chervecryd's protection. It is unknown if Chervecryd has a title or not, but most call him 'The Protector'.

He will watch over hatchlings, eggs, and younglings of other species if asked, but he is more prone to eggs. More often than not, multiple young creatures—be they dragon or otherwise—are trying to climb up him.
