Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Citrinziel Thuban GoldenGift (after the gemstone: Citrine) became the 78th dragon to become part of the Mystal Clan, a surprising gift from the elder clan mother of a distance land. The Clan Mother had journeyed south, many days distant, even as a dragon flies, to participate in a special gathering hosted by the Lady Thuban. A grand discussion began on a variety of topics, including talks of a terrible blight upon the land that threatened all who lived there; some sort of insect infestation! As is her nature, The Clan Mother expressed her concern, and offered to lend any aid she could. When she returned to the clan cave, she found, there awaiting her, was Citrinziels egg, magically transported in the utmost of secrecy, into the care of the clan cave. Citrinziel is a kind, gracious, and generous dragon who takes great pride in her lineage. Each year, she and The Clan Mother return together to visit Lady Thuban and her clan, and jubilantly recount in concert the story for all to hear!
