Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shyam leads the warriors and hunters of the Moonstone Clan. His love of bloodshed makes him cruel and merciless towards his preys and foes alike. Among his own clan, he maintains a strict military discipline and doesn't hesitate to humiliate his trainees if he sees some signs of weakness in them.

Shyam is fiercely loyal to Nilofer. When he first arrived in the Moonstone Clan, he tried to challenge her leadership but she talked him out of it by cleverly pointing out that he hated politics and that being the clan's leader would bore him to death. Instead, Nilofer and Shyam became allies and later lifemates. In many ways, these two share a brain.
