Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Coirlaine, while not as vicious as many others of her species, is still rather curt and condescending to other dragons. She is small and skinny, having been the runt of her clutch, and her skin is an unnatural shade of light blue. Not long after she woke from the catatonic state that vampires are born into, she began roaming the cave as if searching for something. Finally, she found what she was looking for (a wall of rocky soil, apparently), and began to dig. Now she digs as often as possible, only occasionally stopping to hunt or talk with Szabaru. No one knows why she does this; she doesn't answer any questions asked, and refuses to let any dragon other than Bloodwalker help her. She is quite friendly with the cave's resident zombie, Szabaru, and it is suspected that they are mates (as far as undead creatures can be so).
