Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s already quite large compared to other hatchlings, and appears to like roughhousing.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Self-proclaimed King-of-the-Mountain, Ybui is an exceptionally bold and powerfully built young brute dragon. Those few opponents he can't topple through sheer force fall to his clever wits, his playmates viewing him with almost reverential respect and quickly backing down before any challenge. While to outsiders all this appears nothing more than children's sport, Ybui a strong and talented youngster but nothing more, the hidden truth has darker portents. Child of a once-mighty tyrant who ruled the mountain chain with iron claws, the little dragon was there the day his father fell at long last to a hero's sword. Orphaned, he ran into the wilderness and hid among his lesser kin, but he never forgot the power and pride he'd tasted as a prince. His games are innocent enough for now, but he is always scheming, always charming--for he knows those children who adore him now will be adults someday, and still loyal, and then at long last he will regain what is rightfully his.
