Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Though being twin of the silent Iosif, Nikolai is quite opposite of his brother's quiet personality. Nikolai tends to be intensely engaged in deep and thoughtful discussion, and loves to turn his brother's fabled stories into melodic tunes. Oftentimes Nikolai will be found singing his brother's well-known story, The Tune of Adventures, to the children and hatchlings in the nursery. And on Christmas Eve, with the Grand Fire lit atop the fountain statue in the Main Plaza, Nikolai sings his brother's most wonderful and captivating written stories; stories filled with hope and sadness, grace and tears, lost and found souls. Dragons and humans far and wide gather at this grand fountain to hear and sing the tales of Iosif and Nikolai, the Brothers Christmas.
