When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Golden is a member of a small group of Water Dragons who live in a large lake. She is rather anti-social, avoiding interaction with the other members and swimming off on her own. While she sometimes gets lonely, Golden has an active imagination and can retreat to it when she feels down.

The female has her own tune like the rest of her pod and she is always whistling it. Her voice is a little squeaky but soft, with Golden never raising the pitch high. She likes to twirl around near the bottom of the lake, trilling her tune for her own ears.

Golden pretends that she has friends, made up dragons who go on adventures with her above the surface of her home and in the far away oceans. They are always kind to her and she herself helps them when they get into trouble, saving them from giant evil crabs and finding huge hoards of treasure.

What all the other members of the group see, however, is the female dragon floating around in the depths talking to herself and playing with crabs.
