Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.
Aspidax is one of the guards to Xylene's cave, and often stands as still as a statue outside it. She, along with her mate, the Stone dragon, Rax, display infinite patience as they watch over the numerous hatchlings and eggs that come and go. Although the task is tedious, Aspidax enjoys the rewarding experience of protecting all of the "young ones" from harm. If requested, however, she often abandons her post and plays with the hatchlings, her excuse being that she can better care for them if they're right beside her.
