Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has two tails!

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Boy Undesired, along with his clan mate Thou Asketh Much of Me (Aks), was an unfortunate swallowtail hatchling that gendered in the time before his clan could influence their growing eggs. The Marble Cup Cavern looks only to have a pair, and as Boy was being hatched, it was a female that was desired. Boy and Aks spent a lot of their youth together, and remain firm friends, sharing the same cup of suffering, knowing that they will never be quite right for their clan.
