Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. You find it odd that the hatchling doesn’t move at all during the day, but at night its colors change and it is full of energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sherlock was a very lucky hatchling. She had great parents, and a great owner. She even stole the hearts of millions of dragons everywhere when she starred in a play about a detective. Then one day everything changed.

Sherlock was walking with her adoring fans, not paying attention to where she was walking. She walked straight into the resident Ice dragon, who just so happened to hate her acting. He cast a freeze spell on her that left her as a hatchling forever. She went on to star in a few more plays, but soon everyone got tired of seeing the same hatchling play the darling little kid. So she soon couldn't find another role to play in, and couldn't even count of growing up to look forward to.
