Well, the chick grew up into a chicken, but you’re still not sure how the egg got into that cave...

Chakalaka's mother, Jambalaya, was happy on the farm. She laid eggs every day for the farmer and his wife, and was sometimes allowed to hatch some to grow up into little chicks which ran around in the sand scratching for corn. Then the farmer died, and the farm was taken over by a profiteer. He locked all the chickens up in sheds, and took all their eggs as fast as they could lay them. She tried her best to do what he wanted, but not being able to make a new family occasionally became too much for her, and one day she saw a chance to escape, and took it. She carried with her her very last egg, which hatched and grew into Chakalaka.

Chakalaka wandered alone in the desert for some time before the smell of food led her to the cave. To her delight, the floor was covered in tiny scraps that were too small for the dragons to pick up, no matter how hard they tried. She offered her services as cave cleaner, and was engaged at once. She knows nothing of her sad history—but she is happy.
