Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Gartas is a creature of amazing proportions, a work of magic gone wild due to tampering. After it was discovered by the scroll keeper, the spell that caused its rapid growth was undone, but despite the fact Gartas ceased to grow larger, what was already done could not be reversed—the enchanted creature was left a size rivaling the largest of living dragons. Remaining inert most of the time, it now stays within the Ash'del Clan's cave complex, where it has become a much-loved playground for the clan's hatchlings.
