Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Caedmus is one of the unofficial leaders of the clan alongside the silver Arazel and the magi Sunsplat. Like the other two, Caedmus is a powerful dragon and capable of fending off intruders to the clan's cave, yet the easy-going gold dragon would much rather leave the leadership to Arazel and the warring to Abydus and Stigmata. Caedmus has a lively sense of humor and a warm demeanor that wins him the admiration of many of the clan females and the friendship of the other males. Poor Slane is especially attached to Caedmus, yet he rather thickly has yet to notice the silver's constant pining after him. The gold was attached to Blacksith for a time, but has lately been spending more time with the white dragon Dime, to the shock of his clan mates (and to the horror of Slane).
