Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon... except for the tangle of dangerous-looking vines surrounding it...

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Thorned is a very mischievous vine hatchling. He likes to burrow a foot or so beneath the soil and wait for some creature to pass by. Then he pushes his vines up through the ground and ensnares them. Once he catches animals, though, he's not quite sure what to do with them, so he generally lets them go. Because his vines aren't fully formed, they don't do much more than startle the unlucky victim of his pranks. He has, however, gotten himself into quite a bit of trouble whenever he accidentally grabs an unfamiliar dragon...
