When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gagiel prides himself upon being highly intelligent and virtually unflappable under all circumstances. Unfortunately, he comes across as emotionally distant—so much so that, come such a time that his group of hatchlings came to sexual maturity, Archeia found him utterly uninteresting. Gagiel is painfully jealous of Remihel and Archeia's love for him, and can't quite understand how an intelligent dragon like Archie could choose an idiot like Remihel.

For the most part, Gagiel keeps to himself; he doesn't enjoy the company of many dragons. He's become somewhat attached to Heili over the years, fling with Remi's daughter Aeilin notwithstanding, and often can be found sunning himself in the shallows with her.  Frequent topics of conversation include the laws of physics as applied to magic, and their son Dukl's recent attempts to mate with that Whiptail a few caves over.
