Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Deadly only spent about 3 days as a 'living' hatchling. She was stolen from her nest, taken into a human's care, and then, the human killed her. Sharp, burning protrusions had invaded her comfortable shell. They latched into her, and she began to feel the slow, aching burn, hotter and sharper as minutes passed.

It was too much. Deadly couldn't handle the pain. She screamed in agony for her mother, but she didn't come. She begged whoever was torturing her to let her die, but he didn't.

Days passed, and Deadly found herself in the arms of another human. This one talked to her and coddled her. Even as she writhed in pain, Deadly felt loved. Finally, she gained her strength to push out of her shell. She had planned to run to find somewhere to die, but instantly she was so tired, she passed out.

When she woke, deadly found herself caressed in the black night. By her side, she saw the human who had held her and talked to her all this time. She looked around, and saw many different dragons.
