Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Above all, Lanla cherished her relationship with Meleonie; even her mate Hayden didn't quite touch the level of affection Lanla bore for her sister.

When Mel was kidnapped, Lanla near went mad searching for her. Finally, her hard work was rewarded. Her sister was a prisoner of Creorluna, with a clutch of newborn hatchlings besides. But Hayden had been severely injured just days before and none of her other clanmates would consent to help rescue Mel.

Lanla decided to break Mel out on her own. Initially, her plan went off without a hitch. Then she and her sister were separated. Mel escaped to safety. But Lanla didn't. She was killed defending her nephews.

After having grown up and shakily escaping Creorluna's grasp, her nephews called upon ancient magic, hoping to return life to their fallen aunt.
