And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don’t grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.

Smallfins is a frozen female Purple Dorsal hatchling of the Featherwing Weyr. If her brother, Smallstain, is the future heir of the Weyr, being the firstborn, then Smallfins is sure to be his wisest, most influential advisor...eventually. As it stands currently, Smallfins tries to bully her older brother into "seeing things her way," which typically is a way of madness and childishness. Still, from her moments of wisdom beyond her years, the adults have high hopes for her future as second-in-command of the Weyr.
