Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has a large, shield-like object at the end of its tail that it uses for protection.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The Dragon Child (known simply as Dragon) was called such by his father Zalequinn, who despite many failings and the habit of booting or freezing any sons that he begets, is rather fond of his first born son. Zalequinn says that there is an old myth he heard from a wild dragon that states a hatchling of a great leader would become so important to the universe that even his name must not be spoken.

Zalequinn has never been known to be modest, and he assumed that the great leader was him, and that this clever wee hatchling must be the aforementioned important hatchling. The true name he gave his son is unknown to all but Zale and Dragon, and both swear they will never reveal it.

Whether Dragon will eventually end up being the powerful creature predicted remains to be seen, but at least for now he and his father are unconcerned, certain that one day he will rise to take his place among the gods.
