Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Ever since it hatched, the sky has been full of very dark clouds.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Over the centuries, the storms that sweep his world are becoming more and more violent. Many are beginning to fear that the end of their world is coming due to the fierce nature of these massive tempests. To stabilize the weather and prevent disaster, several Storm Dragons formed what is known as the Great Weather Manipulation Project (GWMP). Varan hates that the majority of his free time is taken up with the Project. He would much rather be like other hatchlings his age and not have to travel from Cave to Cave working on a task that doesn't seem to be accomplishing much. Varan would rather hunt and play and fight than learn how to control the weather. The only weather magic Varan is interested in mastering is the ability to strike his foes with lightning. Instead, he spends as much time learning to apply emergency care to wounded dragons and to stop rain and thunder clouds as he does learning anything cool.
