Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Lonely Emo was frozen as a hatchling by his owner once he became mature. Though his adult silver friends treated him as one of them, he never really felt comfortable near them, and spent his time exploring the deep caves. When he became trapped in one, he met an unusual dragon named Blood Griffon, who was also cursed to never grow older. Blood guided him out of the cave, and he and Emo are now good friends. Emo often tries to encourage Blood to meet new friends, but Blood is intent on staying as far away from everyone else as he can.
