Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It always seems to be hungry.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Wheatwing is one of Phoenix's dragons. She is a bit of a blockhead, as a loyal but none-too-bright guard dog of her friends and a one-track-minded hatchling in general. She spends most of her time in the kitchen with Phoenix, not because she likes the cooking but because she is one of the main culprits that tries to snatch bites out of Uncannilycheese or Kitchendrake when she gets the chance. Cheese is one of her favorite foods, and she could probably gobble Kitchendrake right up and still have room left for dessert.
