Frilled Dragons are smaller than most other breeds, but when threatened, they stretch out their wings and frills to appear larger. They generally do not like to fight and prefer hiding to confrontation. Frilled dragons live in small groups and often band together to scare off potential threats. Males also use their frills as a way to attract mates, with those displaying the “best” frills being more likely to breed.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Speckled with Frills was saved by his master when he was a relatively young adult dragon. Dragon thieves stole him from his mother when he was just an egg and took him far away from his home. When he was a hatchling, they forced him to fight other dragon hatchlings and kill them if he wished to survive. Abused and neglected, he had to fight adult dragons in fights while spectators bet on which dragon would win. That was when his current master saved him. By then, Speckled with Frills had grown aggressive towards humans, and distant to other dragons. For months, his master had to be extremely cautious while taking care of his fighting wounds. Gradually, Speckled with Frills began to warm up to his master, and eventually decided to travel with her to protect her. While he still cannot interact with other dragons normally, he is starting to learn how.
