Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Finnick is one of the rare non-aquatic dragons that love to swim in the caves. He is often found with the water dragons, chatting or swimming around in the deep pools of water in the cave system. The pools are deep and some have water tunnels linked to the sea. Even though the salty water of the ocean enters the tunnels, the water in the caves are always salt-free. However all dragons need permission from both Emperor Finn and Tide Master to swim out towards the sea. Finnick pesters them on a daily basis and to a point where he does not need permission. This Dorsal dragon loves diving into the clear waters to paddle out towards the open saline water.

If Finnick isn't swimming or fishing by the rivers, he is carefree and fun. Easily loved by all dragons in the cave, not one can fault him. He is playful and cheeky, but extremely loyal and strong minded. He has his own opinions, and even though he will happily listen to someone's thoughts; he sticks by his all the time.
