Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Yamabuki has an odd habit of making up grandiose titles for random objects, and referring to the mundane with her own special nicknames whenever she's upset at something. It is common for siblings to hear her refer to the sun as the "diabolical flaming sky pancake" during days when the weather is too hot, and she has all sorts of colorful but entirely bizarre insults for dragons who irritate her. Many believe this is due to Yamabuki's vision of herself as prim and proper always, thinking that if she puts so much thought into her angry words, she will never accidentally drop an improper crass statement by accident.
