Daydream Dragons are the hosts of daydreams and fantasies. They spend the majority of their time sitting on clouds, dropping daydreams down into the minds of people passing by. Humans who live near Daydream Dragons must be especially careful not to let their thoughts wander, or they could end up spending hours or even days in a trance-like waking dream state.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The daughter of a rich and glamorous daydream mother and a studious and humble sweetling father, Candied Daydreams grew up in a world of privilege and luxury. Since her parents were the palace dragons of a grand duke, she enjoyed the many benefits of being of royal blood. But as her demanding and self-obsessed mother continued to try to dominate her daughter's life, Candied Daydreams made the difficult decision to run away to the wild. She had always thought that her parents wouldn't care, that her mother hated her enough anyway and her father could do nothing to stop her. They could always have more children, she had often reassured herself. But unknown to her, ever since she left, her father had been heartbroken and filled with sorrow when he realized he could never have his darling daughter back. And no matter how much she wishes to mend the wounds of the past, she cannot, for only a few months later the castle crumbled in an earthquake and her loving father died in the disaster.
