Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hayst Bluestripe is the eldest child of Coris and Haria Bluestripe, and the only one of their children for many years to choose to stay with the Bluestripe Clan.  As a result, Coris and Haria were especially protective of her, and were very selective about her potential mates.  Hayst didn't mind the extra scrutiny—she knew her parents meant well, and she easily managed to slip away while they weren't looking to check out prospective mates by herself.  Now that she's chosen Serjel—who met with both her and her parents' approval—and her parents have other children to keep them occupied, Hayst has considerably more freedom, which pleases her greatly.
