Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Son of Tanoth the Dragon King, Dalryn does not follow his father's outlook on life and care for balance. Instead, Dalryn is a champion of the light, a paragon of good and vanquisher of evil. His innate magic, infused with the purity of his soul, causes his very touch to be harmful to the undead and other beings of darkness. He spends most of his time disguised as a human warrior-prince, leading an organization of priests and paladins known as The Radiant in a crusade against evil. Some of his followers believe his longevity is a gift of gods—of course, that is not the case, and only a chosen few know what he truly is. His mate is Kayla the Forest Magus, the voice of the woodlands.
