Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Impeditus is one of the original members of the Herachus clan. He was given a position as a guardian, watching over the hatchlings and making sure the adventurous ones do not escape. However, no-one is perfect and the occasional witty hatchling will manage to slip by him unnoticed.

Later, he was granted a position as a part-time warrior after the Herachus clan was attacked by the Coryphaeus. Impeditus threw his life on the line warding the enemies off, moving away from protecting just the hatchlings to defending the entire clan. He eventually was cornered by a Stone and ended up fighting for his own life against the powerful dragon, but eventually prevailed after head butting it under the jaw, knocking it over and biting it on the throat. He limped back to the clan with a crushed ankle, but had proven his worth and thus was given his position. Between the battles with the Coryphaeus, Impeditus continues his caring duties.
