When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hydrom, the first Water dragon born to the band, is the group's philosophical mind. He sits for long hours in the deep pool at the back of the cave, staring into the water, or out of the cave entrance. If he's not thinking above the water, he's curled up at the bottom, unmoving. The only signs of his presence are the small bubbles that reach the surface as he rests. What he's really doing, none of the band knows. This mysterious draco, however strange, has many insightful thoughts to offer the group. Conversing with his slow, calm voice, he often speaks in riddles. Alkin, the band's resident Black firebrand, regularly seeks advice on how to gain power only to find himself quietly pondering Hydrom's words for hours on end.
