Valentine eggs are only seen once a year. Adults’ mating seasons are very short, usually spanning a few weeks in the mid-to-late winter. These dragons were once reputed to be omens of good luck in love.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Erophria Hearts, or Ero for short, is an active and bossy individual. Despite having wings, she prefers to walk, as she feels that she gets more exercise that way; plus she gets to see the scenery. Her favorite routes are well-worn paths up the mountain where she lives, and more often than not she's accompanied by Quaver Mellarius. For a long time now she's had feelings for him, but he is surprisingly dense and only views her as a friend, not seeing that her jealousy is the reason for her guarding him from other females. Ero keeps her feelings secret, knowing that things between her and Quaver would only get awkward should she tell him. Recently, she's become more lax, allowing Quaver to see other females and seeing other males herself; she only does so for companionship, though, as she finds hatchlings to be noisome and irritating.
