Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Nightowl is a very playful hatchling and has had a spell cast on her to keep her young. The other dragons compare having her around to having a kitten because of her tendency to pounce on any moving item.  Unlike one of her other fellow frozen hatchlings, she does not mind being eternally young. She is happy that she was blessed with eternal youth.<br/> <br/>Nightowl has seen what growing up has done to Ne'igalomeatiga, Bright-Howl, and Shadow Rain. She thinks that growing up would mean she would end up grumpy like them (or that some dragons are grumpy by nature like Shadow Rain). Being young she does not understand any of their motivations for being grumpy, and she has assumed that growing up means you become unhappy.
