Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Bug the Eighth is a White Striped dragon. However, when told this, he refuses to believe it. Bug strongly believes he is instead a beetle who happens to simply resemble a dragon. His owner thinks she has found the cause of this odd behavior; his egg was found in a small nest by the clan's cave, next to a few cocoons which resembled Stripe eggs. She discovered that a family of beetles owned the nest. After he hatched, the beetles raised him until he could no longer fit in the nest, so after he grew wings, he was adopted by the clan.

Despite how a Striped dragon's diet consists solely of insects, Bug refuses to harm any of "his own kind". Instead, he eats berries he scavenges. He avoids all of the other Stripes, as they eat insects, which horrifies him. Acting almost identically to a beetle, he hides from birds, hides under leaves, and crawls around in the cave's kitchen, where he "discreetly" takes food.

He recently found a nice female beetle and claims to be in love with her.
