Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Penultimus does not share Adventi's weakness, in that the setting of the sun does not distress him. He is old and wise enough to know that it will rise again tomorrow. Secretly, he feels that his mate's reaction to the sunset is a bit overboard and childish, but he would never tell her so—rather, he makes a great show of stretching his wings and roaring every morning to show her that, just like every day prior, the sun has returned.

His display may or may not bring her any comfort, but the rest of the pack see him as a sort of living alarm—when he calls up the sun, it's time to get up and start the serious business of living.
