Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It doesn’t move much, and appears to be covered in stone.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. However, the wings look too heavy to fly and are filled with beautiful crystal.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

At first, she had some difficulties as a small, sensitive Geode with stunted growth in a family of big, loud, boisterous Green Dragons. Especially her grownup half-brother Hammer Battalion used to tease her relentlessly about the crystals on her wings. Even though he collected shiny pebbles as a hatchling himself, he clearly considers crystals to be tacky. But one day the little Geode Dragon had enough. She looked her half-brother in the eye and told him: "These are not crystals, this is fire. Back off or I'll burn you." And all the Red Dragons (happy to get Hammer Battalion to shut up for a change) nodded sagely and declared that it was most definitely fire—a special fire so incredibly hot that it had to be frozen. Since then, she was known as Frozen Fire (and was finally left in peace).
