Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Kalawika is a young Day Glory drake. Like his best friend, Kealohi, he is rarely seen in his clan's cave and is usually found in the nearby village, Drakeville. He owns a fruit stand in the local marketplace where he sells cherry products, such as cherry pie, cherry tarts, cherry candies, etc. He knows practically everyone in Drakeville and loves chatting with others, especially if it's gossip. He also knows the hottest egg trading spots in town, and will often help humans find places to trade their eggs. He will often go to the main cave where several dragons live just to steal eggs to trade with others. Because of this, he has traded several eggs for rare eggs, which he brings back to his clan's cave for Izar to tend to.
