Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Albino dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Trying to distance herself from both of her parents and their strange behaviours, Novelle Dracelle acts very indifferent to others. This tendency resulted in a rather lonely and isolated dragon. Unlike her parents, she avoids the cave mistress and isn't easily offended by thoughtless words.

As of yet, no dragon was able to look behind Novelle's mask, not even her eldest son, despite that she spends most of her time with her offspring. It's the only thing in the world she really seems to care for. Even her sometimes mate Novis Draconis is largely ignored, though the lovesick dragon doesn't care much for Novelle Dracelle either.
