Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Like the egg it hatched from, it is a very shiny gold.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Chasqui lives in the mountains, like all of the other gold Incan dragons. Her name is the Incan word for "relay runner". When Chasqui was a tiny hatchling, her spindly little legs carried her far and fast and the gold absolutely loved the feeling of the wind rushing against her scales. Soon Chasqui started to mature, growing in her wings and her adult muscle. Terrified that she was going to lose her most treasure possession, her speed, to the inevitability of adulthood, Chasqui sought out Lone Heart, the magi dragon, to freeze her forever in her agile child form. In return for his services, Lone Heart demanded that Chasqui deliver messages for an untold amount of years. Though the work is tough, Chasqui is happy. She has a job that she loves and she will never grow out of her cherished nimbleness.
