Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Oskanu is the second eldest child (and firstborn son) of the Kri'laui clan leaders Aliyahna and Oniloui. He is a talented and fearsome warrior but he tends to focus far too much on physical strength and neglects to strategize or formulate plans during battle. He is easily defeated by dragons like his mother, Aliyahna, and his older sister, Alorena, who possess comparable physical strength and the strategic skills necessary to outsmart a brute force fighter like Oskanu. He is also easily defeated by talented mages like Unlakaui since Oskanu is utterly untalented in the areas of magic and mental sciences, mainly due to his lack of interest for the subtleties that can often win battles. He greatly resents the more talented members of his clan and is convinced that he would make a better leader than any of them. He often talks about leaving the Kri'laui clan and starting his own clan, especially now that he has found a mate, Aquiliniya, who encourages his ambitions.
