Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Enchante isn't necessarily an outcast of the clan; still, the other dragons tend to feel bemused and uncertain when it comes to this one.  Being cheese, it is rather slow of thought, and has only spoken once or twice; and it does little to assist the clan.  Nonetheless, the clan always protects its own, and the others take turns watching over Enchante to make sure it doesn't come to harm.  Despite these efforts, it can barely fly, because Swyft forgot to check on it when it was his turn to guard, so the left wing is dry and stale.  Enchante is missing a toe as well, thanks to a mischievous hatchling who was in the mood for cheese.  As far as we can tell, though, Enchante seems quite content here in the clan- or as content as one can be, when one is made of cheese.
