Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Terrae dragons are primarily herbivores who prefer to eat from the tops of trees. However, due to their massive size, they must rely on small, specialized scales to absorb and convert energy from the sun. Since they live in tightly-knit groups, this form of energy absorption helps preserve the forests in which these dragons reside.
Kayla the Forest Magus, mate of Dalryn the Radiant Prince, is often called the voice of nature. Hers is the power of communion - she is able to speak to animals and even plants, or be a conduit for woodland spirits, although doing so greatly exhausts her. As such, she is an invaluable asset to her mate, Dalryn the Radiant Prince, in tracking down his vile quarries. Because of her mate's penchant for masquerading as a human, the wood sprites provided Kayla with a mystical amulet, which allows her to take a human shape of her own and thus always remain at his side. As a result, very few know she is a dragon, for she spends her time around humans in the guise of a hermit witch - albeit not the old and warty sort.
