Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glitter like enchanting flames.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling's favorite food is piglets. When she finds a sow with a litter of them, she stays nearby. Each night, she entrances one piglet away from the rest with her glowing eyes, drawing it away from the safety of its sty into her jaws.

One little, two little, three little piggies...one by one the litter dwindles, until only the sow is left. The big pig is too much for Pigaiy to eat all at once, so during the nights while she is consuming its piglets, she also prepares a place for the sow carcass. On the night she plans to start eating the sow, she lures it out of its sty and into a trap at the storage spot. She finds it easier to kill a contained pig than a vengeful one roaming freely.

When she cannot find piglets, mothers of young children best beware.
