Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Marcelus is very friendly and seems to have boundless energy. He loves to frolic in the meadows around the cave, and he will gladly look after the hatchlings for awhile. He seems very fond of gold nuggets, but they are very hard to come by, so often he looks for something that looks similar; pyrite, or fool's gold. He can tell the difference between a real chunk of gold and this imposter gold, but he likes both minerals and will pile them up in a corner. Marcelus is a bit of a novice when it comes to flying, but Maeyella, a Red dragon, has been teaching him how to 'steer' mid-air and generally go farther without getting tired so easily.
